Cardiovascular Disease Biology

The Division has as its mission, the study of molecular mechanisms of human cardiovascular diseases; translation of bench findings to new bedside strategies for diagnosis and therapy; and mentoring of PhD trainees committed to a career in academic cardiovascular research.

Research in the Division focus on:
1. Identification of factors responsible for increased risk for vascular disease in patients with type II diabetes mellitus. The objective would be to discover diagnostic biomarkers and possibly develop diagnostic tools as well as strategies to reduce the risk.
2. Develop cell-based and gene therapies for ischemic cardiovascular diseases.

3. Explore the genetic and molecular mechanisms in the pathogenesis of
  1. congenital cono-truncal anomalies and
  2. varicose veins
4. Define the mechanisms and investigate methods to modulate vascular remodeling during evolution of cardiac failure in cardiac hypertrophy.
