Life at RGCB is very relaxed and this provides a conducive atmosphere to think and dwell in research and interact with people from different research backgrounds. The diversified research activities provide a platform to integrate their findings and discover something novel. The proof of concept has been shown by some of the RGCB students who have consistently bagged prizes in the DBT contest for the past two years by exhibiting novel ideas. The senior students and the scientists maintain a friendly environment and render suggestions and advices when one runs into trouble with some simple experiments. The labs are self-sufficient for doing basic and translational research. Our mentors are quite considerate and give us sufficient time to troubleshoot our experiments.

After a tiring day in the lab, one would like to gather inspiration and motivation to carry out his/her research with a spark and come up with some out-of-box solutions. RGCB library is one such place where one gets drowned in the sea of wealth which it possesses. The RGCB library is a treasure house with a wide range of collections starting from inspiring books like Emerging Minds, Emperor of all maladies to some of the finest basic biology books like The cell- Bruce Alberts. The library is additionally equipped with internet facilities and free online access to most of the indexed journals in the world.

The science club Bodhi arranges guest lectures, conferences and talks pertaining to both scientific and general stuff by various scientists from different parts of the world. Such programs provides ample scope for students to interact with other scientists and get to know a lot more about various other research labs and the prospect of enrolling as post docs in their labs. BODHI also provides a platform for interaction among students of RGCB.

RGCBians exhibit a lot of extra talents. On festive occasions RGCB students give scintillating performances through a variety of programs. The major celebrations here at RGCB are the Onam and the Hostel Day celebrations, both of which have always been great stress busters. The institute also arranges for video shows relevant to occasion like environment day, science day etc. The RGCB hostel provides the total homely ambience that a student can ask for. It is well furnished with all basic requirements. The cafeteria is another point of escape where we can meet with our colleagues and discuss the problems we are facing in research and otherwise.

RGCB has constituted three awards to motivate, encourage and appreciate the students. The MR Das Career award for PhD students for outstanding performance during the course of their degree, the RGCB travel grant for students to present their data at international conferences and the Merit Award that is presented each year on Foundation Day for exemplary research.
