Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is an autonomous institution fully funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. RGCB invites applications for the following positions (Code 1 to Code 5) from Indian citizens with needed qualifications. Full details including job description, additional desirable qualifications, etc. are described below.

Helper/ Laboratory Helper

Pass in Standard VIII, good health, valid two wheeler driving license (for males) and 5 years documented working experience in government research institutions/ laboratories

For Code 1A - Helper (Field Assistant, Green House)
Documented experience in garden maintainence, maintenance of experimental plants including land preparation, watering, manuring, weeding, undertaking protective measures against biotic and abiotic agents, harvesting, processing of seds and rhizomes, monitoring and ensuring growth conditions of net/green houses, assising investigators in documenting field data.



For Code 1B - Helper  (Library Assistance)
Documented experience in a specialized scientific library, operation of photocopying machines, documentation and arrangement of books and journals in the library, ability to cater to requirements of multi-lingual users.



For Code 1C - Helper (Biological Sample Collection)
Documented experience in collection, handling and storage of biological materials and tissue samples in State or National Biomedical Research Institutions. Specifically collection of biological materials (tissue, blood and other fluids) from collaborating medical institutions and animal source centers, their appropriate transportation in a cold chain, storage at RGCB, assistance in the laboratories, cleaning & upkeep of laboratories and monitoring proper disposal of laboratory wastes.



For Code 1D - Helper (Office Assistance)
Documented experience in the operation of photocopying machines, binding of documents, travel to various offices on bicycle and scooters, sorting of inward and outward correspondence, etc



For Code 1E - Helper (General Laboratory Assistance)
Washing, cleaning and sterilization of lab wares, general laboratory cleanliness, dusting/wiping of equipment, work places and shelves, monitoring proper disposal of laboratory wastes, regular cleaning of animal cages and water bottles, monitoring of animal house floor cleaning and keeping it and tidy, sterilization of animal beddings, water bottles and cages, changing animal bedding routines and proper disposal of animal house waste and dead animals as per norms.

Code 2A - Technical Assistant (Laboratory Assistance & Management)
Documented experience in basic cancer research laboratory techniques such as autoclaving, tissue storage & processing, paraffin embedding, immunocytochemistry as well as laboratory management assistance includingassistance in departmental project management activities as assigned by a supervisor or project manager, collection of project plan updates, maintenance or modification of project plan documentation, preparation/distribution of project status reports, project accounts, preparation of utilization certificates & expenditure statements, project reporting and documentation. 



Code 2B - Technical Assistant (Data Entry & Programming)
Documented experience of data entry in a bioinformatics facility at government research institutions, documented experience in website management, web server manangement, data base development, documented proficiency in programming languages like C/C++, Perl, SQL, HTML,and JAVA and knowledge of mixed operating systems environments (e.g. UNIX, Windows NT, Sybase, Oracle etc.), Structured programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong diagnostic capabilities, extensive knowledge of relational databases and proficiency in PC software.

First Class Diploma in Electronics/Communication Engineering with a minimum of 5 years documented working experience in System Administration and Central Networking in State/Central Government or Public Sector institutions.

Job Description

The Technical Assistant is responsible for assistance in installing, maintaining and supporting computer communication networks within RGCB, Assistance in  applications of Local Area Network (LAN), Assistance in maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of Server/Workstation/Desktop etc. and networking issues and familiarity with Windows NT and Linux operating systems would be given preference; Assistance in installing, supporting and maintaining new Server hardware, Workstations, Desktop computers, Laptops and software infrastructure; Assistance in routine preventive measures and implementing, maintaining and monitoring network security, Assistance in analysing and resolving faults, Assistance in doing the hardware report of computers up to PCB level; Suggesting and providing IT solutions to Scientific and Administrative departments; Assistance in Planning and implementing future IT developments.

Minimum Qualifications

First Class Post Graduate in Science with five years documented working experience in the relevant area in State or Central Government research institutions.

 

Additional Qualifications

Documented experience in the application of bioinformatics and computational biology tools, experience in commercial and free bioinformtics packages, experience in developing databases and software, peer reviewed research publications, organizing and coordinating training programs. Fluency in at least one of the following: C/C++, Perl, SQL, HTML, and JAVA and a
working knowledge of relational databases and system administration is preferred.  Familiarity with public sequence databases and standard sequence analysis tools is highly desirable. 

 
Job Description

Design and development of software, databases, and interfaces for analyzing and manipulating genomic databases. Development of  gene discovery algorithms for integrating sequence-based/functional knowledge about genes to help scientists analyze and interpret gene-expression data, Analysis of  DNA information identification of opportunities and needs for innovative solutions for the analysis and management of biological data in relevant databases. application of statistics, and visualization tools. Provides support in the development, evaluation and deployment of gene centric information systems and works closely with scientists in developing statistical and probabilistic methods for gene clustering/analysis.  Collaborates with scientists to develop high throughput data processing and analysis capability, design and implement data queries, novel algorithms and/or visualization techniques. Maintains large-scale DNA databases and prepares data for utilization by other scientists. Monitors new data from public databases and cleans loaded data to satisfy quality control criteria. Works with scientists to diagnose and fix issues with bioinformatics software. Provides direct technical and scientific customer support and helps guide, implement and maintain further improvements to Bioinformatics software.

Minimum Qualifications

First Class in the five year BVSc&AH with at least 5 years working experience in State or Central Government departments or institutions.

 

Additional Qualifications

Documented experience and expertise in handling experimental animal research facilities, experimental procedures in animals, knowledge and experience in setting up facilities for maintainence of transgenic and other special types of mice, knowledge of procedures associated with CPSCEA regulations.

 

Job Description

Officer-in-charge of RGCB’s Animal Research Facility, Responsible for diagnosing, treating and monitoring laboratory animals during the research stage of new drug therapies/discoveries. Other responsibilities include observing and documenting animal behavior, testing and vaccinating animals, performing autopsies, and working closely with scientists to analyze complications during new drug treatments/applications. Maintainence and stock of animals including transgenic mice, nude mice, SCID mice, other specialized and regular animals, breeding of animals, assistance to scientists for experimental procedures on animals, ensuring correct implementation of CPSCEA guidelines on keeping and experimentation of animals, ensuring biosafety and disposal issues, supervising subordinate technical and cleaning staff in the facility, procuring animal stocks from other institutions and overseas, etc

General Conditions/ Instructions



1) The number of positions in each code is provisional and may increase at the time of selection; if more numbers of positions with identical job requirements become available at the time of selection or within one year after the selection these positions may also be filled from among the list of shortlisted candidates.

2) The Director, RGCB reserves right to not to fill any or all posts advertised.

3) Relaxations and concessions will be in accordance with the RGCB Rules and Regulations. Relaxation in age, educational qualifications and/ or experience will be considered in case of outstanding candidates and/ or persons already holding analogous positions in Government Scientific Organisations/ Research Institutions.

4) The candidates must be citizens of India.

5) Candidates applying for more than one post may apply separately for each post indicating the name and code number of the post. Applications form must be downloaded from the institute website. There is no application fee.

6) Merely fulfilling the requirements in the advertisement will not automatically entitle any candidate to be called for interview. The applications received will be scrutinized and candidates who in the opinion of the institute are likely to be suitable will be shortlisted for calling for interview. The decision of the institute in all these matters will be final. No interim enquiries/ correspondence/communication of any sort will be entertained in the matter.
