Applications are invited from suitable candidates for one position of Project Assistant in a DST funded Bioinformatic research project in the Laboratory of Dr. Shijulal Nelson Sathi at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram. Major focus of the project is to identify the role of lateral gene transfers during the evolution of antibiotic resistance among pathogenic bacteria.
Candidates must have a Master's level Degree (MSc/M.Tech) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, computer science, mathematics, statistics, microbiology or biotechnology with good academic record. Basic computer programming skills and experience in working with Unix/Linux machine is required. The candidate should be capable of performing computational analysis on large amount of microbial genomic data.
We are looking for a motivated student with keen interest in bioinformatics and its applications in microbial genome evolution. Ideally the candidate has hand on research experience on handling next generation sequencing data and phylogenetic reconstructions methods. Furthermore, good knowledge is required in statistics (R/Matlab) and the application of bioinformatics analysis tools.
Below 28 years as on 24th November, 2017. Age relaxation will be given as per Govt. of India norms.
12,000/- + 20% HRA (consolidated) per month.
Initial appointment will be given for one year and further extension up to maximum of 3 years will be given based on the performance.Only those fulfilling the above criteria need apply and will be called for interview. In the event of more than 10 candidates being short-listed by screening the applications, a written test will be conducted before the selection interview and only those who are successful in the written test will be interviewed. No TA/ DA will be given for appearing in the interview.
