Testing susceptibilities of Helicobacter pylori against
antibiotics and herbal products
Helicobacter pylori infection in human stomach may lead
to peptic ulcer and gastric cancer. These two diseases are
responsible for over 1 million deaths every year worldwide. For H.
pylori, growing resistances against commonly used
antibiotics like metronidazole, clarithromycin and amoxicillin is
a concern. Alternative therapies involving plant extracts or
other substances may have anti-H. pylori activities.
However, the stringent conditions required for H. pylori
culture makes the H. pylori related in vitro
tests difficult for most laboratories. RGCB offers a unique
service of testing the
sensitivity profiles of H. pylori against antibiotics
and other substances like herbal products. Results can be
obtained by well diffusion assays and by determining minimum
inhibitory concentration (MIC) using broth dilutions or agar
₹1260.24 per sample.
