PhD ADMISSIONS – January 2026

BRIC-Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (BRIC-RGCB) invites applications for admission to the PhD program (January 2026 session) in various domains of Biotechnology.

The BRIC-RGCB PhD program is affiliated with the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), an "Institution of National Importance" providing education, training, and research established by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The selected candidates will register for the PhD program with RCB and should follow the guidelines issued by RCB and RGCB for the award of PhD degree.

IMPORTANT DATES

1. Eligibility for PhD admission

1. Candidates with a Post-graduate degree with a minimum of 60 % marks and 4-year Bachelor’s degree having a minimum of 75% marks in Life/ Agricultural/ Environmental/ Veterinary/ Pharmaceutical/ Medical Sciences or allied subjects Biochemistry/Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Biophysics/ Chemistry/ Microbiology, etc.) marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in the UGC 10 point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grade system is followed) or an equivalent from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country which assess, accredit or assure quality and standard of the educational institutions are eligible to apply.
2. A relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade point may be allowed for those candidates belonging to the SC, ST and differently abled candidates.
3. The candidate should have a valid JRF (UGC/ CSIR/ ICMR/ DBT/ DST-INSPIRE or any other nationally competitive fellowship) for 5 years offered by the Government.
4. The upper age limit should not exceed 26 years as of January 05, 2026.
5. The upper age limit for SC, ST, and differently abled candidates should not exceed 28 years as of January 05, 2026.
6. Candidates awaiting final results of their post graduate degree or 4-year Bachelor's degree, and holding valid JRF (UGC/ CSIR/ ICMR/ DBT/ DST-INSPIRE or any other nationally competitive fellowship) for 5 years offered by the Government of India are eligible to apply. If selected, such candidates must produce their provisional / original certificates with eligible grades at the time of admission or as soon as it is issued.

2. Selection Procedure

Candidates meeting all the eligibility criteria will be shortlisted for the interview. PhD interviews will be held only offline. Based on the performance of candidates in the personal interview scheduled at the RGCB Main Campus, Poojappura, applicants will be shortlisted for the final selection. The guidelines for interviews will be provided to all the shortlisted candidates. The list of the shortlisted candidates will be displayed on the RGCB notice board and website. The final selection will be based on the overall performance in the interview, laboratory rotation, and interaction with the faculty scientists.

3. Application Procedure:

1. Only online applications will be accepted.
2. Application Fee (₹ 500) must be paid online using 'SB Collect' of State Bank of India through the URL given in the Payment Stage. SC/ ST/ EWS/ differently abled candidates are exempted from paying the processing fees subject to the submission of valid certificate.
3. The last date for receiving completed applications is 5 PM, November 14, 2025.
4. Incomplete applications or those without processing fees will be rejected.

4. Fees for PhD Programme

Students admitted to PhD program will be required to pay an administrative fee of ₹5000 per semester for the first ten semesters, and ₹10,000 for subsequent semesters. Additionally all students have to pay the RCB administrative fees.
