- Project Preferences
You are requested to visit the RGCB website to explore current projects of the scientists' where they are looking for a student to do research work leading to PhD. After carefully reading all these projects where vacancies are available, you need to prioritise your choices up to maximum three and the same should be send to us as a reply to this mail (phd.admn@rgcb.res.in) by December 4, 2024 (Wednesday), 2:00 PM.
Please note that if we do not receive a response by this date, we will assume that you are not interested in attending the RGCB Ph.D program.
Important points to note
- Only those candidates who send their choice of preference will be called for the interview.
- All candidates must satisfy all eligibility criteria such as Qualifying Degree, Minimum CGPA/Percentage of Marks, valid JRF with a tenure of 5 years and all other requirements as mentioned in the PhD admission advertisement/ RGCB website.
- The candidate who fails to appear for the interview at their given scheduled time, the candidate will be treated as absent.
- If there is any inconvenience in attending the interview in the given date, the candidate should contact RGCB in advance through phone or email.
- Candidates who are shortlisted in the interview will proceed to the final round of selection process. As part of this, candidates are advised to come prepared to stay at the RGCB hostels until December 20, 2024 (Friday) to participate in the final round of selection, which includes:
- Interaction with the vacancy listed scientists based on the candidate's given choice of preference.
- Laboratory visits of the concerned faculty.
- Submission of the filled consent form, duly signed by the candidate and the concerned scientist following the scientist's approval, is mandatory for confirming the selection to the RGCB Ph.D program. The admission will be provisional and if the candidate fails to meet any of the requirements specified in the admission advertisement, the selection will be revoked, or the admission will be cancelled at any stage.
- Candidates awaiting results for their Master's examination are also eligible to appear for the interview. However, those who successfully clear all rounds of the selection process must produce their original pass certificates and mark sheets at the time of joining. Failure to provide these documents will result in the automatic cancellation of their admission.
- Required Documents for Admission
- M.Sc. and B.Sc. degree certificates and mark sheets (all semesters).
- Fellowship award letter.
- SSLC and 12th certificate.
- Transfer/Migration and Conduct certificates.
- Category certificate (if applicable).
- ID proof (Aadhar and PAN card).
- 6-7 passport-size photographs
- Self-attested photocopies of all the above certificates
- Hostel Information and Fees
The students who wish to take institute hostel after the Ph.D admission are advised to bring the following Personal Belongings
- Stationary items (Books, pens, pencils, calculators, etc)
- Laptops, chargers, any other required (modest) gadgets.
- Enough pair of clothes.
- Towels and toiletries.
- Bed sheets and pillow coversThe Institute has two campuses and one hostel on each campus. The main campus is in Poojappura and another campus is in Akkulam, Thiruvananthapuram. Students will be accommodated in hostels according to the location of their laboratories.
- Hostel Deposit: ₹10,000 (one-time).
- Room Utility Charges: ₹1,200 per month (pay ₹7,200 for the first six months upfront). (Two times per financial year: April - September & October - March).
- Mess Fee: Pay as per usage directly at the cafeteria.
- RGCB Semester Fee The first eight semesters of the Ph.D program will have an RGCB administrative fee of ₹5,000 per semester. After the 8th semester you have to pay ₹10,000/- per semester. At the time of joining you have to pay ₹5000/- for the first semester.
- Ph.D. Coursework The mandatory six-months Ph.D. coursework will commence on January 1, 2025. All the details are available on the RGCB website.
- General Reminders
- Candidates should inform the Office of Academic Affairs promptly, if you are unable to attend the interview.
- Candidates qualifying in the interview will be provided accommodation in the institute hostel on a payment basis (Rs. 100/- per day, including food expenses) until December 20, 2024 from the day of interview. Parents or guardians accompanying the candidates are requested to arrange their own accommodation.
