BIOINFORMATICS
ONE DAYWORKSHOPS
#1 : BEST PRACTICES ON PERFORMING
BIOLOGICAL SEQUENCE ANALYSIS
Trainer: Dr. Shijulal Nelson Sathi
Date : 05-05-2021
The one-day training program covered the theory
and algorithms underlying protein and DNA
sequence alignment with hands-on sessions
utilizing web-based and command-line tools. This
course was delivered online via a virtual platform
and primarily designed for people interested in
learning fundamental concepts in bioinformatics.
There is no prerequisite for experience in
bioinformatics or knowledge of computer
programming, Linux, or UNIX.
No. of participants - 29
#2 : PROTEIN STRUCTURE MODELING AND
VISUALIZATION
Trainer: Dr. K C Sivakumar
Date : 19-05-2021
This one-day training was provided for anyone
interested in learning the fundamentals of
structural bioinformatics. The workshop focused on
homology modeling approaches, visual exploration
of 3D molecular structures of proteins, and
their interaction with one another, with ligands,
substrates, and drugs. Participants learned how
to create publication-quality molecular images.
No prior experience in the field of structural No. of participants - 44
bioinformatics is required, but a basic knowledge
of protein structure is advantageous. Experience
with a UNIX-like command-line environment is not
required, but it helps to type the commands into the
modeling concepts and biology.
