Congratulations to Padma Shri Cheruvayal K Raman
It is delighted to congratulate the Padma Shri Awardee Cheruvayal K Raman, popularly known as the 'Guardian of Native Paddy' (Nellachan), who has managed to save 55 native varieties of rice varieties in Wayanad. The Tribal Heritage Project team of RGCB under the 'SHRI' program, Department of Science and Technology, GoI, is frequently interacting with him and he shared the seeds of traditional paddy varieties, knowledge on planting techniques, rituals associated with rice cultivation, etc., and supported us for establishing Field Gene Bank for traditional paddy. The Project Team is extremely grateful to him and on this occasion, the Nation honored him with Padma Shri Award for his esteemed endeavors, the Tribal Heritage Project Team commended and felicitated the 'Nellachan'’'.
