The primary interest of my lab is deciphering the signaling pathways initiated in tumor microenvironment supporting tumor progression. My team explores the pathways and important regulators for the induction and maintenance of self-renewal ability in oral cancer stem cells, which plays a major role in the recurrence of oral cancer. The study is a collaborative effort of scientists from BRIC and clinicians from south India. Besides, we identified a host defense peptide that exploits immunomodulatory pathways to induce cell death in cancer cells. This property offers a therapeutic potential to this peptide in cancer therapy, specifically for cancer types that are resistant to conventional therapies.
