In July 2019, RGCB launched a highly innovative two year MSc Program (four semesters) in Biotechnology with two unique specializations - Disease Biology, and Genetic Engineering. The MSc program of RGCB is affiliated to the Regional Centre for Biotechnology an “Institution of National Importance” providing education, training and research established by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO, a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) based in Paris.
The MSc program at RGCB is unique, as the training is set in a vibrant research environment. It covers the fundamental fields of theories in Biotechnology, while focusing on laboratory exercises and industrial as well as research applications. This programme is expected to feed into the PhD programme of RGCB and other National Institutes in India and Abroad, encouraging the students to take up further studies that lead to a career in scientific research, development, innovation and teaching. The students are also introduced to the concepts of “Enterprise and Entrepreneurship”. This allows students who wish for a career beyond the laboratory in an existing biotechnology industry or for those who dream of starting a new biotechnology enterprise. Students get trained in a real business & technology development bio- incubator where startup companies function.
