Research Summary
Our research focuses on understanding the role of non-coding RNAs and associated proteins in
stem cell maintenance and HPV-mediated cervical cancer development. In particular, we
investigate the PIWI-piRNA pathway, which has emerged as a promising target for cancer
diagnosis and therapy. Our group is developing a piRNA-based diagnostic platform for the early
and non-invasive detection of cervical cancer, with the aim of identifying sensitive and clinically
useful biomarkers.
A second major area of our research is the epigenetic regulation of multidrug resistance (MDR)
in cancer stem cells (CSCs). CSCs are believed to contribute significantly to cancer recurrence
because of their enhanced drug resistance and ability to survive conventional chemotherapy.
We have identified a potential negative regulator of MDR proteins that may provide a novel
strategy for sensitizing CSCs to chemotherapy. By targeting the molecular mechanisms that
maintain drug-resistant CSCs, our research aims to develop more effective approaches for
preventing cancer recurrence and improving treatment outcomes.
Through these complementary research areas, our laboratory strives to translate molecular
discoveries into innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for improved cancer detection,
treatment, and prevention of recurrence.
